7Randy Decker has been involved with volleyball for over 35 years as a player, coach, college official, and club director/owner. In addition, he is a career educator with over 30 years of experience as an elementary teacher, high school volleyball coach, elementary school assistant principal and principal, and currently a central office administrator.
While teaching 5th grade at Washington Irving Elementary School in the Edmond Public Schools District, Randy was hired as the head volleyball coach at Edmond Memorial High School, leading the Bulldogs to the state playoffs his first year. In 1997, he began serving in administrative roles as an assistant principal, principal, and for the past 19 years, as the chief HR administrator in Edmond, a 26.000+ student school district in Central Oklahoma. In 2018, Randy was honored by his peers as the Asst. Superintendent/Central Office Administrator of the year for District 7 in Central Oklahoma.
While Randy began playing volleyball in his 20’s, it was his head coaching days at Edmond Memorial High School that opened the door to participating in many areas of volleyball such as coaching club ball and officiating college volleyball for over 20 years. In 2005, he was part of a group of seven friends and coaches who established Oklahoma Peak Performance Volleyball (OP2) out of the Edmond area. He has coached teams from 11’s – 18’s and added a boys’ team program in 2014. He has functioned as the club’s director since 2010. Currently, Randy coaches the 11-1 Elite team for Peak.
Having earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in elementary administration, Randy understands how young students and players develop and learn. Because of this, he prefers working with young players just beginning the sport. That is why he chooses to lead the developmental programs at OP2 for players in 2nd-6th grades. In 2005, he created what would later be named the “Base” and “Apex” Camps that create a high energy atmosphere for players to learn the “fun”-damental skills. These programs have served over 2,800 players since the club was founded.
Randy has been married to Anne, his wife, for 32 years and they have five children; Kate Pitzer (and husband Brynden), Sarah Ferguson (and husband Justin), and Will Decker. They also have three grandchildren (Ruth, Jane, and Heidi) and are expecting their fourth grandchild in June of 2024.
